In their own language, a vikingr was a raider; the phrase fara i viking meant to go raiding over the seas. A typical Norseman was tall and blond with blue or gray eyes. However, there were “black” Vikings—not black of skin, but with dark hair and eyes.

The Vikings carried their cult of Thorr to every land they settled. In fact, the Irish called the Vikings of Dublin “the tribe of Thorr.”
